Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1990 dodge D150. Changed out the fuel
pump now my fuel gage won’t work. Had a 1/2 tank
when I started it up the fuel gauge just buried below
E? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Right part? Wired correctly? Not in backwards? Turn the key to on and hold down odometer reset button, this will test all dash lights and gauges, gas gauge should move to 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, and full. If gauges check okay and new pump/sending unit are okay, then problem is in wiring. From what I've read elsewhere, gauge buried below E all the times means positive wire is bad, buried at F all the time means loss of negative. Check where wiring goes through firewall grommet or along chassis.

thanks for correction, hopefully in OPs case it's just a missing ground.

Thanks for the info guys, I know the ground is firmly on the sending unit. I’ll track the wiring elsewhere and see if I find a problem
