HELP! Light stays on after turned off

I bought a 2002 pt cruiser off of
someone. I noticed that whenever I
turn off the car, take the key out and
shut the door, some lights stay on
but turn off momentarily BUT the
headlight sign on the dashboard
stays on and so the the thing on top
that reads the temp. Why!? Im pretty
sure that is what killed my battery
today.
