Could be fuel filter is clogged or fuel pump. My grand am used to do the same thing. They told me my fuel filter was clogged because I let the gas get too low in the tank and the sentiment clogged the filter and fried the pump :(

Can you hear the fuel pump operating when you turn the key on? If so then it isnt your pump. You just have air in the fuel lines and need to keep cycling the key on and off so fuel reaches the injectors.

It is probably a fuel related problem, though fuel filters can give you phantom symptoms. Go to the Audi Forum and they have a check list of items to do to determine the cause of the problem. I like Yuri's answer to try before getting technical.
