2002 Taurus Duratec

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Both Belts removed from engine to diagnose a
"Whirring" type of noise to e exact. Thought noise
was Accessory related because Drive Belt had no
Tension. After tensioner replaced, noise persisted.
So, remove both belts after failing to locate
Accessory noise. Once both belts were off,
whirring noise was still present. Noise sounds like
it could be internal. Anyone with some direction to
solve this would be appreciated. I'm stumped!!

My Duratec is pretty quiet. My alternator hums a little. There is water pump driven by a tiny belt off the camshaft. Maybe you are hearing a noise from the transaxel. Some whine when low on fluid. I wouldn't worry about it unless it gets a lot worse.

As stated before, both serpentine belt and transaxle belt removed. With serpentine belt off, no accessories are turning. No humming noises. My noise is a loud whirring. Almost, sounds like it is internal or coming from center of engine.
