2001 ford explorer sport 2wd rough idle on start and stalling out

Asked by Sarah Aug 06, 2018 at 02:00 PM about the 2001 Ford Explorer Sport 2WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2001 ford explorer sport and in the
morning I have to start it like 5 or 6 times
before it will stay running. It stalled out on
freeway about a week ago and I had to sit
for an hour before it would start again.
Started fine and I made it home. Check
engine light is on. I checked intake for leaks
with starting fluid seemed fine. I purchas ed
a pcv valve but for the life of me can't figure
out where it goes. Can somebody please
help me with what it might be. In a girl and
only know how to do so many things and
also don't have the money to buy random
parts to see if it will fix it. Ty

Check hoses for any holes or dryrot. I have a 01 explorer sport 4wd and it sometimes has a rough start as well as wants to stall out at times. I went out and bought the FIXD diagnostic tool which helps when the check engine light comes on. It threw the code for a bad EGR valve or EGR sensor. You can find FIXD sensor online for $60. It just plugs right under your dash and is totally worth the money.
