removing the fuses did not work. But, I disconnected the battery for about half hour to reset the computer and it reset the 4x4 back to auto, Walla! So if your car is stuck on a any of the low or high 4x4 this should work to rest it for you as well.

IC you just fixed my truck. I have a 2002 XLT and both of the Low/High lights were on when it started and was essentially stuck in 4wd mode until it eventually kicked into AUTO mode for regular driving. I unplugged the battery for 30 mins and like all 2000 era computers once it rebooted.... its back to normal.

Hi,I have a 2002 ford explorer xlt v6, my wife was driving full speed on the highway with 4wd on, and she turn it off while she was on full speed, since the 4wd work but it make a loud noise and vibrate throughout the car,the abs light is on,and I can't switch the 4wd on low ,only on high with a lot of noise, what could it be dry transfer case, bad front diff, and I have a mechanic scan the car , the abs pump is not working.

I have a 2003 Explorer which was also stuck in 4x4 low. Tried all the tricks mentioned. None of them worked for me. Turned out it was a simple fix. In the Power Distribution Box there are two 20 amp fuses #18 and # 17. They are labeled as 4x4 (v- batt 1) and 4x4 (v-batt 2). In my case # 18 was blown. Changed it, problem solved.
