Why would my 2002 Ford Explorer shut off every time I slow down and stop at a light?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The vehicles is not missing but it just shuts
off when I come to a stop. It runs fine when
at idle.the check engine light is on.

It could still be an iAC valve, but I would check for vac leaks, and clean the throttle body. And when was the last time you had a tuneup? And also, you need to scan the computer for that code. Might tell you the whole probe.

When you start the engine it idles properly while in park. When you shift to reverse or drive with your foot on the brake does it kill? Let the engine warm up as when the engine is cold it usually idles higher than when warmed up. My first thought is a tuneup. If that does not work check the IAC. Change the spark plug wires, often times this is the main problem. You can check them with an ohm meter. A normal reading is about 5K ohms per one foot.
