Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So my bone had self lost the only key to my Ford
Explorer, we had a guy come out and make a new
key. He try to program the chip to the security
system and told me he had issues. The engine will
crank but the security feature will not allow the fuel
pump to Pump Fuel to the engine. He told me that
his software could not link up to my car. And he
didn't know what to do. Am I stuck with a 2,000 on

You may need the assistance of your local Ford dealership's service department. You can not program a new key without an existing working key to use. Best thing would be to find your key.

Hey guys thank you for the help! Well no I don't have a 2000 lb paper weight thank goodness. The issue was the first locksmith cut the wrong transponder key. I had a 2nd locksmith come out the next day. He cut the right key and my girl fired right up. And the problem with going to a Ford dealership was they didn't have the key codes for older cars older then 10 years.

Very happy you got it fixed without the dealership's assistance. Locksmith service can be questionable sometimes.

It wasn't that the locksmith was shady, it was the truck. The truck was made in October of 2000 but the vin number came up as a 2001. But it used a 2010 1/2 transponder key. The first guy had a lot of good reviews. But he had not been doing the locksmith for very long (5 years ) and this was first Ford Explorer he ever made a key for. But now he know what one to use next time he gets a call for an Explorer missing a key :)

Haha yes Bob. And if we can find the lost key, that will work too. This time I am going to leave the key on the ring. So I Won't have to worry about losing it again haha. A 120 dollar lesson to be learned here.

$120 sounds pretty cheap for 2 keys. Best of luck to you.
