Truck acting up

Asked by Debra Jan 03, 2018 at 10:13 AM about the 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Extended Cab RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

A week ago I couldn’t get my truck to start. We
finally got it to start by getting under the truck every
time we need to use it we touch the screw on
solenoid with screwdriver n it starts right up. Well
we hooked up two wires so we would not have to
get under the truck. It worked but the very next day
we had another problem. When the trucks in drive it
won’t go past 30 it’s just revs. I have to use it in first
gear. N now I get in the truck n it says it overheating
n I check n it has water n everything but then it
goes all the way past the overheated mark. Like all
the way to the right. It looks like it’s broke. R these
things related. Anyone know what to do about it not
going past 30 in drive

Wow, I would expect to only find these kind of problems on a flood damaged car. Yes, I do believe these problems are related as they seem to be coming from The ECU.. if you can remove the ECU ,,(everything plugs in to it) or at least inspect the connectors going into it you may find evidence of moisture (i also suspect moisture inside the ECU housing.) You also should install a #12 bare copper ground wire to the far side opposite the battery ... make sure the negative connection to the engine block is clean and tight
