I have a 2004 Chevy Silverado extended cab, 4.8 liter. I have had multiple issues with this vehicle, but the one I can't seem to solve is this: if I leave the truck sitting for a day, when I get in and start driving, about 5 miles down the road, it acts like it is being starved of fuel. The engine light starts blinking and there is no power even when i step on the gas fully. After a minute or two, it goes away and runs fine unless I let it sit for a couple days. I just replaced my fuel lines because they were rusted out but that didn't solve the problem. Any ideas anyone?

Have you had the truck scanned for codes? You can get done at any auto store (AutoZone) for free to narrow down the problem as well

the evap system is throwin up the red flag, maybe even your gas cap is missing, not tight, or you're overfilled the tank chokin' off the evap canister (guilty of this myself) it will recover with use, the light will go off if you've corrected with the proper fuel cap and not over-filling the gas tank....also you may need an oxygen sensor...all these and more can be found out if you go on by your parts store NAPA, O'reilly, kragen will do this for free, write down the information and relay it to me here, I will tell you exactly how to correct the situation if desired

A check engine light can indicate a broad spectrum of problems with your 2004 Chevrolet Silverado. In some cases you need to pull over immediately to prevent damage while in others you merely need to tighten you gas cap next time you stop in order to reset the service engine soon light. The video below shows how to locate the on board diagnostics (OBD) plug on your 2004 Silverado , how to read the trouble codes and how to reset or clear the check engine light using a scanner on your Silverado. Intermittent Check Engine Light: If the check engine light on your 2004 Silverado is intermittent, try to take note of the conditions when this happens. For example, does it happen when you accelerating, driving on the highway or does it appear at low speeds? This will help your mechanic evaluate the issue. Steady Check Engine Light: If your check engine light is on every time you operate your Silverado, you need to have it checked as soon as possible, especially if you notice performance problems or unusual noises. Flashing Check Engine Light: If your check engine light is flashing, stop driving your Silverado and have it towed to your nearest mechanic - you probably have a very serious problem with your car and you risk ruining your engine by driving it. If you are unsure about what your diagnostic trouble codes mean; have your Silverado diagnosed by a professional automotive technician

p0131 or p0153 my truck does the same thing heated oxygen sensor not heating to right appropriators. it will also show cylinder 5 and 7 misfire but all plugs wires and ignition coils are good. i work at an O'reillys and alot of people with this year model truck and motor even with the 5.3 have changed bank 1 sensor one and two. try those if they dont work its might be a fuel injector.
