Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Okay so I'm having to replace my steering box because the
shaft on the bottom that the pitman arm connects to was
leaking and making God off of noise so I'm having a swapping
it out now. The steering box I got is the exact same length
size same year make but now all the sudden for some reason
the shaft that goes on The gearbox seems like it's way too
long

Your saying the spindle that comes out of the gear box that the pitman arm slides on to is way too long ? You may have to break down some of the linkage or attach it before you bolt the gear box to the frame .

No, what I'm saying is the steering wheel that little piece at the bottom that comes off of the steering gearbox. For some odd reason when I reconnected to the new steering gear, the son of a bitch isn't lining back up so that I can bolt it back up

According to Rockauto.com there's like 5 different possibilities for the correct gear box for your truck. You need to know option codes, etc. My guess is you got the wrong gear box. Look at the RPO sticker and see what options you have and go from there. Hope that helps! Jim

Okay, I will do that. But just so you're aware that gearbox is exact. Same length and size is the one that I took off

Apparently there's something different about it or it would bolt right up. Let us know what you find out. Jim

Not sure if you figured it out. But there is a flat side on the shaft that lines up with the gear box. If it’s not lined up it won’t go on. it should still go one one or two teeth off. Make sure the splines on the heat box isn’t damaged. I’m having trouble re installing after a header install at the moment lol
