2003 monte carlo ss when i turn steering wheel the abs light comes on and message center reads service traction. what does that mean

The OBD has detected a fault somewhere in the ABS system. The wheel speed sensors "look" for wheels turning at speeds inconsistent with what they should be, ABS and traction control are all tied together and will light up the warning when a fault is detected in any component. When you say "when I turn wheel" the wheels are going to be turning at different speeds, as they should be to corner.... and it seems the system 'thinks' you are losing traction in one wheel instead of the normal difference while cornering. Suggest getting you OBD scanned at a parts store, they will do it free..come back with them and myself or somebody will help you decide what to do.

You should follow the codes the OBD II read out gives you by reading about them online. Being that the car is FWD I think you should contact a dealer and have it serviced soon, before your "Service Traction" code becomes a full on "Service ABS" code.
