I have a '78 Vette with a rear spoiler. Would this have been originally installed by manufacturer or an option installed
at the dealership? I haven't seen a photo of another '78 with a spoiler. Thanks

The '78 & '79 Corvette Pace Cars had OEM (D80) spoilers. If someone ordered a car and knew the option number, it would have come from the factory. That was before computers and cars could be ordered with many interesting options.
