Why won't my car start?!?

Asked by Red Jan 13, 2016 at 06:08 PM about the 1999 Lexus GS 300 RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My Lexus was making noise and I couldn't figure
out why. A few days later my serpentine belt
popped. I replaced it, but soon as I started my car it
would come back off. So I replaced my pulley
wheel and tried again. This time the belt stayed on
temporary, but eventually came back off again and
now my car won't start. The belt was on correctly
and no fly wheels are ceased up. I'm totally lost on
what the problem may be. Do I need to replace my
starter or have it rebuild?

Sounds like you may have and issue with the harmonic balancer pulley,it may be bad,and in need of replacing being the belt want stay on and you have issue,s cranking it,but check all pulleys including power steering and ac to make sure there is nothing else causing it to come off,but my guess is the harmonic balancer is bad.

Would debris from the old belt cause it to come off? Because there's a little buildup on the alternator wheel. Before the pulley wheel replacement the belt was coming off from that location. After the replacement it looks like it's coming off from the alternator. And the belt does be on the correct way.
