Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Replace the ecm in 09 Malibu and now it won’t

Any help is much appreciated. Order ECM from

I would do proper diagnostics. What is your vehicles issue? Back story please.

No power when accelerating in the car for the 1st 3 gears. After that the car will drive normal. I’ve always had the check engine light in for the camshaft sensor. Other than that this is my 1st big problem with it. 2009 Malibu with 158000 4 cylinder 2.4

They had a issue when they got up in miles were the timing chain guides would give out and the timing chain would jump a tooth or 2 causing the issue your having, it will set a cam and crank sensor code also a cam crank correlation code. Have you checked the timing chain at all? Do you hear any rattling from the front of engine(right side) when you rev, it up? The biggest issue is, it's a interference motor.

2009 Chevy Malibu 2.4L 4 Cylinder Ecotec, Replaced timing chain and guides not too long ago, shut down on my way home from work the other day, not a single warning sign. No longer starts, no crank. Sometimes the ignition will click but nothing. Traction control, Service ESC, Power steering, Engine Disabled, Engine Power reduced. Tested multiple mechanical parts, know for sure it is an electrical problem. Wondering how to test the electrical system and pin point what the problem is. Bought a new ECM. Possibly the engine fuse box, TCM, wires that lead to the PCM/ECM? ANY help on how to locate and/or test the electrical system would be much appreciated.
