Howling noise in my silveraldo

Hey everyone, so I have a 1988 Chevrolet Silverado. When I drive it makes
a howling noise but only when I get to about 30 miles per hour and take my
foot off the gas, but if I put my foot back on the gas the howling noise
stops. My step dad said it's my rear end ...  that sounds a little expensive to
me so I thought I would check out the opinion of you guys.
