In addition, lien information on a vehicle history report is not always accurate. My 2008 Mercury Grand Marquis is a perfect example of that. I bought the car in 2012, financed it, and paid it off in 2016. The finance company does not report to the Division of Motor Vehicles that the vehicle has been paid off. The owner is expected to do that. However, I don't think it's my job to go to the Motor Vehicle Agency and show them my title so they can update the records in their computer. So I refuse to do that. As a result any vehicle history report will still show that there's a lien on the vehicle even though I have the title, it's stamped "encumbrance satisfied", and signed by a representative of the finance company. Same was true when I traded in my 1993 Caprice in 2012 that had been paid off since 1998. Hope that helps! Jim

Nobody ensure full disclosure regarding liens or accidents to cars they sell, not even dealers. Why? Because nobody really knows. Carfax reports are based on info reported, not unreported. and sellers lie about everything... DO YOUR DILIGENCE. Have cars checked out by mechanics prior to purchase.
