Fuel pump on 08 Chevy cierra

Could u hear the sending unit in gas tank if you put
your ear up to it.  Humming sound or anything?  
Truck will run when underhood fuel pump is
manually pumped but quits soon after you stop.

Help me out here, is this the 6.0L or 6.6L engine? And I do not see a mechanical fuel pump listed for this, and GMC makes the Sierra model truck. If there is a fuel pump in the gas tank you should be able to hear it run when you turn the key to the on position. You do have a fuel pressure issue. Also from what I can tell there is a fuel lift pump somewhere in the system.
