First, what you should do is get your free annual credit report that you are allowed to receive based on Federal Government mandates, this site will explain more about this and give you the link: http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0155-free-credit-reports - ---You should determine what your score is and what appears there from any student loans, store cards, etc. before you set foot in a Car Dealership. Now, are you working, if so, for how long? Sounds like you have $$ for downpayment at least and/or monthly payments won't be a problem.

Go to a dealer they can run your credit and tell you what you can afford

the dealer can run your credit and tell you what they will sell you, but you need to know how much you can afford to spend before you go in. try to get an idea how much insurance will cost before you buy if this is your first new vehicle. you will have to keep full coverage as long as you have a loan on it.
