why is the brand new timing chain so loose on my dodge

i just replaced my timing chain on my 96 dodge ram 1500 and it is looser then the old one i had on it.. why? gettin really frustrated with this repair

Wrong chain or tensioner/idler is not adjusted/bad or incorrect installation path.

Count the inner teeth on both chains to see if they have the same number of links.

That is unusual that the timing chain is worn enough to need replacing. To check chain lay it on top of the other one to check size.
