I have a 1996 Silverado. Will not go in drive or reverse unless i rev the engine really high. if i drop it into four wheel drive low it will take right off but will not shift. Any suggestions?

I have a 2004 Silverado 5.3L Z71 that the 4 wheel drive will not engage. The control switch lights come on at startup but then go off completely and will not respond. What is the possible problem? 2 Answers

2004 Chevy Silverado 5.3L. 4 wheel drive will not engage. Stays in 2 wheel drive. transfer case control lights up at initial start up, but go out thereafter.
