Wont start every time

i have a 1994 chevy silverado and im having this problem were it will start
right up and some time it wont we replace the fuel pump and replaced the
ignition switch i havent check if it is sparking or not

It would be nice to know what the code is from the ECM that is turning on the check engine light. You can do this with a scanner that is capable of reading OBD1 computer codes, or you can go to this sight that will explain how to retrieve the codes causing the check engine light to come on. Also you would want to check the cap & rotor, spark plug wires and spark plugs, and look for vacuum leaks.

look for an engine to chassis ground , a braided wire , shot in the dark , let us know what happens

so what is happening is it not trowing any codes weve checked for spark and it doesn't spark lintel in will start. when it starts it sparks it fires right up and runs perfect

Then take the coil out and the ignition control module out and take them to a auto parts store to have tested. One or both could be bad. Another thing to look at is the two wires running from the ICM to the center coil pick-up. Gently pull on them at the coil pick-up to see if there is a broken wire. If the wires or wire feels spongy, it is causing an intermittent connection, and would need to be replaced.

so we think weave narrowed it down to the ecm in the distributor we couldn't get it out the bolt are rustier then shit under the cap so we are going to replace the distributor

the bolt holding the distributor is torqued high , not meant to come out , the little bolts on mine were also rusted , I tried all kinds of tricks to get them loose none of which worked , I ended up breaking the dist. cap and drilling out the little bolts and using a small bolt with a nut on the bottom , they used to have a bolt you could put a screw driver on and open it right up , why they went with a tiny thing like that I don't know ,

thats good to hear , were the contacts on the old distributor pitted and brown ? It must have been beat .
