Can I haul a car with my truck?

Asked by Auggie1944 Jan 22, 2017 at 09:52 AM about the Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Question type: General

I have a 94 Silverado, 1500, 6 cylinder, extended cab with topper, 225k miles.
Considering hauling a 99 Toyota Corolla (2500 lbs.) from Ohio to Wyoming.
Truck has very little rust, mechanically good shape.  Can this be done?

If you were to rent a dolly, say from u-haul, they would ask about what you are hauling, and what you are hauling it with. They could let you know for sure.

You've got a big truck for the old tbi 4.3. You won't be going fast but the truck will handle it. Don't use overdrive and don't give it too much hell and you'll be fine. I belive the car is well within its tow rating. Of course don't use a bumper mount, I'm assuming you have a good reciever hitch installed

A car want be a problem cars dont weigh as much as people think but they sway alot if not loaded right dollyed or trailered.but be beter if you used a tow bar .it will pull beter

You've probably made 3 trips by now. But for less sway have that car as far forward on the trailer as you dare. And of course a 2" receiver with class III hitch. I have a 95 k1500 dog v6 that I towed a s10 ext cab on a 16 ft trailer about 200 miles in hills. I didn't use overdrive and it was slow going. I personally wouldn't recommend it for that distance. I'd want at least the 350 or the newer LS engines.
