Not exactly sure of your question, but the mark is used to time the engine. The mark is on the cam gear.

If your getting that deep into engine I would get yourself a Haynes manual to get it done right. They are about $28.

You definitely should have a repair manual for this job and the main reason is to make sure when you turn the crank all the valves are closed or the piston can hit and bend the valves. also sometimes there are more than one mark to line up.

There is a mark on the crankshaft and a mark on the cam, both of which have to be in line when you install the timing chain or belt. Also if you are going to buy a manual get the service manual not a Haynes manual as they typically dont go very in depth for engine work a tell you to take it somewhere.

Yikes! 2 cams instead of 1 cam. Looking for the marks and can't find any.

Ok so you havent taken the belt/chain off yet right. If everything is still hooked up then you you could potentially set the engine to top dead center and then mark the gears with a marker. There has to be some way that you line the cams and the crankshaft up however.

i think it's more that you don't know what to look for ,the marks are there. they have to line up with each other also the crank shaft, the cams should have 2 marks & 1 on the crank .
