what does it mean when a code comes up- manufacturer controlled transmission?

Usually this is caused by a sticking valve in the valve body on the transmission, are your 1-2 shifts harsh? If it just started happening, then have to fixed right away, you don't want to burn out your clutches. Also, how old is the tranmission fluid, is it red or brown?
