Hi Benson ... The most recent posts I could find on GTP/Pontiac forums seems to echo your concerns that the 2008 GTO may not be produced at all or it under wraps due to some significant design changes (4 door?). I couldn't find any official announcements and certainly not one that says the project has been abandoned. I did see a lot of negative response to the current design concept however. Looks like it's a wait-and-see situation.

there is no 2008 gto coming, if the gto comes back at all, it will be an extended "Touring" version of the camaro and won't be out til after the camaro has hit the streets

The G8 will not be a GTO, its unlikely. After Pontiac realized that the '04 "GTO" was a total f*up, its not likely that they will use a non-original basic design. After the flag the Chargers are getting, and the amazing feedback towards the non released Camaro and Challenger, the design would most likely not be a 4door, which the G8 is. It is likely that the next GTO (if there is one) will be a Camaro based design, as the Challenger and Camaro both are viewed as amazingly well done remakes of Classics. (not to say the body couldn't be done differently to make them better, but in comparison to the '04-'06 GTO and the Chargers, they are godly in design) I would hope that Pontiac makes a decent choice as to redoing the GTO, if they don't, I hope they leave the name alone until someone comes up with a decent idea. As for the '08 year, I doubt it is going to come out at all, as its way to late in the year, and they may as well wait till '09, just to give some breathing space and time for design to be fully worked out.

the closest possibility to a new gto would be if they bring the holden coupe 60 concept over to the us. and thats only if they even put it into production. its still only a conecpt. and the thing that is preventing it from coming is the new EPA mandates on things like emissions and MPG. so your gonna need to cross your fingers on this one.
