Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The car does not accelerate fast at all. It accelerates as if the engine is not big enough or stong enough for the car. It's like ,you can feel how heavy the car is as you gain speed. The car has no get up and go. I had the trasnmission rebuilt, No change.  I replaced the main computer. No change. Any Ideas?

3L DOHC V6? How long since your last major tune up?(air filter, spark plugs, plug wires, fuel filter, ect). Automatic or 5 speed trans? How many miles on your timing belt? If not sure about timing belt check your timing belt tensioner to make sure it was still in spec. But if I was unsure I would have it and water pump changed. Better safe than sorry cause if it goes you will bend valves and have to do the heads. Check compression on each cylinder. The psi should be between 150psi and 200psi. I would not drive it in this condition until you narrow down that it's not a timing belt issue.

Thank you for your answer. I like everything you said. It is a 3L DOHC V6. Automatic trans, with 122000 miles. About two years ago It had a squeeky belt, so firestone replaced the pully tenisioner on the serpintine belt. They also did a compression check for me, they said all 6 cylinders were ok. I didn't think about the timeing belt. After the New year I will have the timeing belt and water pump replaced and a tune up as well. Maybe I can find that acceleration again. Thank you. I'll keep you posted.

I would not only change the belt, tensioner, water pump I would have the fuel injectors or replaced along with a new filter. If that doesn,t work for you, then you probably nave internal engine problems,,Good luck with your car,
