If the cadylatic converter is bad will that cause a 1987 crown vic to not start.

some one told me that if wouldnt start. It could be the catalytic converter. I thought that the car would start but when it got hot it would stop. Any help would be appreciated.

If the catalytic converter is bad, car should start, but once back pressure builds it will shut down.
