All lights work in my ford350 2000 but my back brake lights dont work

lights work but when i put on the brakes, no brighter brake light come on

Start with the basics, fuse. Bulbs. Its possible, however unlikely, that they both burned out within a short time of each other. Then the switch for brake lights, do the turn signals work OK?
