Dual gas tank switch

I have a 1996 f150 302 dual tank,but front
tank has been gone for about 5 years
Two days ago the.truck started acting up,try
to start truck and shift in drive it would stall.
I cleanecleaned the egr valve the valve on
the throttle body and the one by the air filter
it stopped it from running fast and cutting
out,but now I have to turn the tank switch to
the when it starts ,I will switch in back to the
rear tank and it will run . What can be wrong

I am the guy with two of these trucks, a 1987 and a 1996. Never have had any major problems with either one, unless it is with the fuel tanks. Have done some of the work on them myself, but once for each of them I had to take them in to my Ford dealer to get the problems solved. Have not had any problems since then. Good luck.
