where do I put the tranny fluid in my Mazda 626 LX?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I am engine challenged, so you'll have to excuse me.
Under the hood there are two yellow handled tips connected to the sticks.  Is the one on the left for oil and the one a bit deeper back for the transmission fluid?  On the stick it does say only use Mercoon fluid.  I don't know if this is just an agreement between the two companies (Mazda, Mercon) or if I have found the right hole?

You have found the correct hole, the one marked Mercon. You will want to find Dexron IV/Mercon fluid to use, as that supercedes Dexron-III/Mercon, which was the original fluid.
