My check engine light is on on my 2009 Mini
Cooper.  Why

Any number of reasons. The CEL tells you there is a trouble codes stored in the system. Purchase, or borrow a OBDii code scanner to pull the code or codes and can look them up on the internet. A mechanic can do this for you too. Also an auto parts store will do it for free to try and sell you parts. Just get the 4 digit code, not the description and post back here and we can help.
