Oil pressure loss

Asked by Christopher Oct 12, 2016 at 08:35 PM about the Chevrolet C/K 20

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1980 Chevrolet k20,  with a 1975 .
7.4L , 454ci, . Originally it ran at idle with oil
pressure at 40psi and would go up to 50psi,
a few days after an oil change it started only
having 25psi on gauge, at idle and dropped
as I accelerate. It always had a small oil leak
so I changed oil pan gasket,  but problem
still exists with the oil pressure,  info on
what's going on would be greatly
appreciated,.

Did you recheck oil level on some vehicles have to add another quart a few days after changing oil.

Big blocks use 7 quarts if I'm not mistaken. Lower pressure while accelerating is either low oil level or something is wrong with the pickup tube
