71 280 sl should there be a bit of movement at the fan joint when lightly
wiggling the fan blades?

On a clutch fan, yes. With the engine cold you can test it by spinning the fan blade by hand with the engine off, obviously. If it freewheels the clutch is bad. You should feel some resistance and the fan blade should only spin a bit, not excessively. Hope that helps! Jim
