What is this car worth?

Asked by Guru96K1HT Oct 29, 2022 at 05:00 PM about the Datsun 1200

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

I have access to a 1961 Datsun Fairlady 1200 convertible in somewhat
rough shape but largely intact.  The hood and trunk lid, steering wheel, and
dash panel are there, although the last two are weathered.  The motor and
transmission are in the car.  I do not know their condition but they are still
installed as it came.  I have the title to the car.  Wikipedia reports only 288 of
there were made and a pair of these "unrestored" sold for $100,000 in 1996.
That is just for information as I am uncertain of the "unrestored" condition of
these cars. The Manufacturer's Identity Number is SPL212000078.  I am
looking for someone to estimate the car's value.

Somewhat rough shape? Largely intact? The car's stored in a field and there's nothing to indicate that there's anything useable there, except the body... Maybe. Go to Datsun/Nissan owners club and get direction from people who can go through your "find." There's not enough interest in this car to make it worth the insane expense to restore it; especially as it didn't really exist in the US. If you have a very understanding banker, you might be able to do a restomod with a new crate drivetrain from Chevy or Ford.

An unrestored vehicle is usually one that has been driven daily, reasonably maintained, and is still basically useable as is. What you're looking at is a parts car condition vehicle, I believe number 6 on the valuation guide. This vehicle is not in "unrestored condition". Sorry! Jim
