without more info it would difficult to say but scan tool would be hepful , to check crankshaft sensor signal when it dies ,

...being it's a '97... i'd change the CPS anyway... it's cheap... the heat of the engine, and of course, oil, grime, etc... makes them split and crack on the inside... the outside connectors can get brittle as well.. if you change it, be careful of the connector, it's a bit tight in there but with some quarter inch ratchets and creative use of extensions and so forth you can do it, one relatively small 10mm bolt... the knock sensor is nearby, just above it..., if you're into tuning up your engine, updating/upgrading sensors... you might want to change it as well, since you'll be in the neighborhood... also can be a brittle connector... just for your info... in case you don't already know... you can go to Autozone, or Advanced, and get your computer scanned for free. I know at Autozone for sure, and Ask that they give you a printout...
