My 87 4 door cutlass want stay in park

I just put a transmission in my car. And it changes
gears. But it once I move out of park it want go
back in park. What could be the cause of this.

All of what Ed said plus the linkage may just not be adjusted properly. As long as the transmission you put in was working properly it is most likely adjustment or a bad electrical connection or damaged wire.
