Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2001 malibu that's been sitting for
bout a year It will not start up So we charged
the battery And still will not start Before all
of this I took the radio out In the process of
putting another one in But did not finish so
the wires are still out Can this be the reason
the car is not starting? Should I hook the
radio back up ? Then start it up

It may have to do with the security system, most of them go threw the radio. May try hooking it back up. You may have to do a reset procedure to reset the security system.

You can find the reset procedure in the owners manual, or search for it on line. you tube may even have it.

To reset the pass lock system... Follow this procedure exactly and let me know how it turns out ok... 10 Minute Learn Procedure... Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. Attempt to start the engine, then release the key to ON, vehicle will not start. Observe the SECURITY telltale, after approximately 10 minutes the telltale will turn OFF. Turn OFF the ignition, and wait 5 seconds. The vehicle is now ready to relearn the PasslockTM Sensor Data Code and/or passwords on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK. Important: The vehicle learns the PasslockTM Sensor Data Code and/or password XXXXX the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK. You must turn the ignition OFF before attempting to start the vehicle. Start the engine, the vehicle has now learned the PasslockTM Sensor Data Code and/or password. With a scan tool, clear any DTCs if needed, history DTCs will self clear after 100 ignition cycles.

It was the starter the hole time Got a new one now But because its been sitting for a year my back breaks I think r locked up And my RPM is high when its in park It goes down alil bit when its in reverse Can u help me out Wat can I do bout that?

The brakes should break loose when putting it into gear, just work it slightly, forward, backward. Drive the car for awhile, everything needs to relearn itself.

I tried that But someone told me Because I have drum breaks in the back it will b alil harder So they told me because its been sitting so long 2 wait for a hot day like the last 2 days we had where im out in pa And then I was told 2 try it again That's Wat ill b doin 2day Does this make sense?

Sure, you could also take the wheels off and beat on the drums to break them loose also.
