engine oil in coolant but no coolant in oil. 89 4.5

Asked by dcooper5 Sep 23, 2010 at 08:49 AM about the 1989 Cadillac DeVille

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

4.5 litre with oil in the cooling system but no coolant in oil. It takes a while to occur, couple of weeks or month but about a quart ended up in the overflow reservior in 7months. This was after a cooling system flush. Any ideas

I would think either a bad gasket or a crack in the engine block or cylinder heads. Check your spark plugs, see if they are oily.

gotta be a cracked water port inside the head...gotta be in the top of the motor.have the heads taken off and pressure tested and do a compression test to see if there is a certain cylinder low or out of specs from the others...if there is then u know at least what side has to be pulled instead of haveing to pull both
