P0301 Code for 2002 Chevy Silverado 1500

A 2002 Chevy Silverado 1500 failed inspection due
to code P0301. Apparently this has something to
do with a misfire. The service engine soon light
came on during the inspection. I've also seen this
light come on before and then it goes out.
Nevertheless, the code is there.  The mechanic
offered to look to see exactly what it was. But I'm a
bit leery, as I am unsure if he will try to say that it's
something major that needs to be fixed in order to
get it to clear inspection. Any
thoughts/suggestions as to what the issue is and
how I should handle this?

p0301 code mean cylinder number 1 has a misfire the easiest way to find out if it's the coil order spark plug exchange number one with number 3 exchange the full clear the code crank it up if the code moves to the number 3 which would be p0303 then that means the coil is bad if it still stays on number one the plug is bad
