08 Chevy cobalt (manual) won't start

Asked by Meaganboo Mar 30, 2020 at 04:24 AM about the 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I changed my air filter in my car yesterday and it
drove fine afterwards but when I went to start it
last night it wouldnt start. It clicks and tries to turn
over but even trying to jumpstart it didnt work.
There is some yellow foamy buildup on the inside
of the oil cap but not on the dipstick, all lights are
working, its not leaking anything, checked the
fuses and they looked fine. My clutch isn't real
loose feeling but it's not stiff either. Any
suggestions?

My guess is that you knocked off a vacuum line or electrical connector. Check for a disconnected vacuum line or connector. Yellow gunk under the oil fill cap is fairly normal in winter and spring. See this post on yellow gunk under the oil fill cap. https://ricksfreeautorepairadvice.com/yellow-gunk-under-oil-cap/

Check that all the grounds and connections to the battery are tight and clean. Load test the battery as well. It may have enough power to run accessories, but not enough to turn over the starter although boosting it usually (but not always) overcomes that. Anyway, trouble shoot first.... buy parts later.
