Range Rover L322 TDV8 Fuel problem - limp mode

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2006 L322 TDV8 consistently goes into limp mode after 8-10 miles of
normal driving. If I pull over, turn off and restart it is then fine for another 8-10
miles. If I drive very carefully (ie keeping well under 2,000 rpm) it goes much
further.

This issue first started after having a fried alternator replaced (on the way back
from the garage).

There are two (relevant?) faults reported on my Lynx Evo - P0087-00 (fuel/rail
system pressure too low) & P2290-00 (injector control pressure too low).

I have replaced the fuel filter and the fuel lift pump (in tank). I have eliminated it
being a blocked breather pipe (by running with the left hand tank cover off !!)

I have ordered a Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor as that seems to be the cheapest
thing that could be wrong.

Any ideas what to do next?

The problem was the high pressure pump. It was sent away to Siemans for testing and had failed. There are two internal sensors but you cannot get spares for it apparently. We ended up using Electro Diesel in Exeter. After disappointing (and extremely expensive) service from the main dealer we very very happy with how Electro Diesel diagnosed and sorted the problem.

Mine is doing the same just showing every fault imaginable until it finally wouldn’t start... 30klm from Cobar, it’s had seven diagnostic tools on it and all point to fuel pressure, some in a round about sort of way: neither of the fuel pumps are cheap just I can’t hear the in tank one or does it spit fuel out of the lines, shraeder valve or fill the filter... it’s either tow it to a shop or diy, it has a car yard sold warranty but it looks like it’d still cost heaps as it doesn’t cover the full cost of things, I got it just in case of a major failure.
