voltage light

for some reason the voltage light in my 1986 pontiac bonaville turns on and stays on after i turn the car off and this is cause my battery to die any ideas on what this problem might be?

Alternator's internal voltage regulator is n.g. It can be repaired, but probably cheaper to replace the alternator.
