Had the Volvo dealer replace the OD selenoid on the tranny. Didn't work. They said the tranny was shot get rid of the car. Kept using car as needed. After about 10 miles freeway driving in 3rd the OD shifted up and now it works. Volvo was wrong, My wife and I really like and now we get to keep our '89, 244 DL with 320,000 miles on it. In the end I flushed tranny and changed the filter, changed oil, replaced the relay. Dealer did the selenoid for 450 USD. Over the 22 yrs we have owned the DL we have not spent much replacing parts or labor. They are great cars. Would love to find someone that would do a modest repair, replace, refurbish?
