hi i have an 88 volvo 240 gl and my fuel gauge doesnt work what should i do

if the gauge reads empty all the time you should probably check the connection on the top of the tank sending unit, mine rotted out and the wires were just dangling there, i'm not sure about the sedan but the wagon should have an eccess hole over the unit under the carpet.
