4th gear isn't working in my 86 cabrio.

4th gear isn't working in my 86 cabrio. It will shift into 4th but when I hit the has the rpms just go up and the car
doesn't move. Do I have to replace the tranny or is there something else going on?

Sounds like a "stripped" gear, they are nylon and do not take too well to grinding. find a good VW mechanic, do NOT go to a VW dealer, find a used tranny in a quality junk yard. Rebuilds are available on line. Bear

my cabriolet is strange. I runs great most of the time. Once in a while while driving the rpms fall below 10k and the car bogs down. It take about 45 seconds to get to 45 mph from a stop. When this happens I drive home and park the car. Upon the next start up everything is working fine. I have a new fuel filter, plugs air filter,wires, no vaccum leaks.
