Durable? Maybe. More like easily repairable. Any running 1974 vehicle is somewhat durable. The Beetle is basic and can be fixed with common tools.

I've been driving mine for 24 years. You have to change the oil frequently and adjust the valves every 3,000 miles. If you don't have a mechanical aptitude and maintain the car it won't last long. Good luck.
