how much should a pay for a 1974 bug it has 84,000 miles on it?? he is askin 4000 or best offer???

that sounds about right, it all depends on your location, take into consideration what the undercarriage and body look like (was it driven in winter?) (does it have any salt damage or rust?) and keep in mind that money talks, most people that say best offer will take 10-13% less than asking when cash is inolved. be careful with cars over 10yrs old that have low milage, they've been sitting for awhile, thankfully VW's are easy to work on and count on replacing gaskets and seals, its just a fact of age..

you should not pay any more than 3k, its a '74 bug, and with 80+k miles on it.

Isn't the odometer on those 5 digits? So it could be 184k or 284k for all you know... Also check for rust and then check again.... Floor pans... Longs... I recommend going on a Air Cooled VW Fan Forum and asking them what you should look for... For 4,000 I'd expect it to be a fairly well sorted Bug, not perfect but decent...
