If you pull the wire off the distributor should there be fire coming off the wire that goes to the coil or could it be the resistor on a 1986 dodge ram 50

To check for spark pull a spark plug wire loose from a spark plug and put an old plug in the end and touch the outside of the plug to ground while the car is running or while someone is turning the engine over. Look at the gap and you should see a spark.
