We have a 72 Charger that had a similiar problem and eventually would not start at all We traced back all the wiring and found an in-line fuse looked to be factory under the dash in the harness leading to the ignition we didn't care where it went inside so we spliced the wire together eliminating the fuse under the dash, traced the wire back under the hood and installed an in-line fuse there for easier access. This was 2 years ago so far it hasn't blown again
